Around the 14th century, the mining industry began in the iron, lead and mercury quarries of Sass N\u00e9gher and S\u00e0is, mountains in the Val di Gar\u00e9s; thus the forges for melting metals were born in the localities of \u201cI Forn\u201d and \u201cMedev\u00e0l\u201d and thus Canale became the second important mining center of the Agordino after Agordo. Excellent swords were forged for the Serenissima with the iron from these foundries.
